Hot ETFs Week 14 (GAZ, VXX, IYG, XIV, KBE)
Hot ETFs for Week 14 reflect confused nature of today’s markets
Hote ETFS for Week 14 reflect confusion and possibly changing trends. Hottest ETF for the week was natural gas, coming at a time when demand slacks off in spring, while another hot weekly ETF was in long volatility, contrasting the 30 day trend that favored short volatility as the equities markets seek direction.
Hot Weekly ETFs:
iPath Dow Jones-UBS Natural Gas Subindex Total Return ETN (NYSEARCA:GAZ) +19.6% for the week, as the volatile ETN bounced off a hard bottom and sharply reversed negative momentum.
iPath S&P 500 VIX Short-Term Futures ETN (NYSEARCA:VXX) +3.6% as the ETN bounces off multi year lows and highly oversold conditions. The “fear” index could be in play again next week as markets react to the poor employment report.
WisdomTree India Earnings Fund (NYSEARCA:EPI) +3.0%, this ETF tracks the performance of the WisdomTree India Earnings Index.
ETF Winners 30 Days:
VelocityShares Daily Inverse VIX Short Term ETN (NYSEARCA:XIV) +31.8%, this ETN moves inversely to the VIX Index and now shows signs of topping and a trend reversal.
iShares Dow Jones U.S. Financial ETF (NYSEARCA:IYG) +8.2% as financial sector continued its leading performance for the last 30 days.
