Europe ETFs Like The Firewall (EEM, FXI, EWZ, VGK, EWG, EWJ)

Europe ETFs soared on news of a new, improved anti-debt firewall

Europe ETFs rose over 1% today after news that European financial ministers took steps to further bolster the anti-debt firewall for the region.  The steps include a 1 Trillion influx of Euro dollars from the ECB, plus extra funding from member countries.  In addition, the Spanish government plans to pass further austerity cuts and raise taxes.

The Emerging markets also performed well today, as the iShares MSCI Emerging Markets Index Fund ETF (NYSERACA:EEM) and the FTSE China 25 Index Fund ETF (NYSEARCA:FXI) rose .72% and 1.01% respectively.

Emerging Markets ETF Update: 

iShares MSCI Emerging Markets Index Fund ETF (NYSEARCA:EEM): +.72%, This ETF is designed to track the performance of the MSCI Emerging Markets Index.  The MSCI Emerging Markets Index tracks emerging markets’ stock market performance as reflected by the performance of top companies and sectors in many emerging markets including China, Russia, Mexico, Brazil, Taiwan, and India.

FTSE China 25 Index Fund ETF (NYSEARCA:FXI): +1.01%,  This ETF is designed to track the FTSE China 25 Index Fund.  The FTSE China 25 Index tracks the performance of the top 25 Chinese companies; each company is traded publicly on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange.

iShares MSCI Brazil Index Fund ETF (NYSEARCA:EWZ): -.34%, This ETF is designed to track the performance of the MSCI Brazil Index.  The MSCI Brazil Index tracks Brazilian stock market performance as reflected by the performance of top companies and sectors in Brazil including PetroBras, Banco Bradesco, Vale SA, and CIA De Bebidas Das Ame.

Europe ETF Update: 

Vanguard MSCI Europe ETF (NYSEARCA:VGK): +1.10%, This ETF is designed to track the performance of the MSCI Europe Index.  The MSCI Europe Index tracks Europe stock market performance as reflected by the performance of top companies and sectors in developed Europe including France, Germany, Greece, The United Kingdom, Sweden, Norway, and Italy.

iShares MSCI Germany Index Fund ETF (NYSEARCA:EWG): +1.17%, This ETF is designed to track the performance of the MSCI Germany Index.  The MSCI Germany Index tracks German stock market performance as reflected by the performance of top companies and sectors in Germany including Siemens, Bayer, SAP, and Deutsche Bank.

Japan ETF Update: 

iShares MSCI Japan Index Fund ETF (NYSEARCA:EWJ): +.30%, This ETF is designed to track the performance of the MSCI Japan Index.  The MSCI Japan Index tracks Japanese stock market performance as reflected by the performance of top companies and sectors in Japan including Toyota, Mitsubushi, Canon, and Honda.

Bottom Line:  Europe ETFs cheered further steps taken by European financial ministers to further bolster the region’s firewall and Spain’s resolve to move forward with tighter budget controls.
