November’s ETF Winners & Losers
StockTradersAlmanac: Following the best DJIA monthly point gain (NYSEARCA:DIA) ever in October, markets corrected in November. Similar to October’s record performance, November also hosted its own record setting events. The third worst Thanksgiving week on record was followed by the best week after Thanksgiving ever which brought markets nearly back to where they had began the month. Losses were broad based, but relatively minor when compared to September. Only two sectors, on average, posted gains in November: Biotechnology/Pharmaceutical (+0.2%) and Utilities (+0.4%). The worst performing sectors were: Semiconductors (-4.5%), Leveraged Long (-3.9%), and Foreign Market (-3.6%). First Trust Utilities (NYSEARCA:FXU) was the best performing Utility sector fund with a 1.7% gain. SPDR Semiconductors (NYSEARCA:XSD) was the worst performing Semiconductor fund, shedding 7.3%.
