Worst Augusts Under A Bad Sign
Two days after watching the surfboards hanging from the ceiling of the Corolla Surf Shop on the Outer Banks of North Carolina sway in the 5.8-magnitude earthquake as I picked up a ding repair kit we would be forced to evacuate our vacation four days early ahead of Hurricane Irene. This proved to be a prescient evacuation as our route out on N.C. 12 was washed out then littered with rocks and debris and impassible until Monday.
